Kansas City: Behind the Scenes at Union Station

  • Union Station 30 West Pershing Road Kansas City, MO, 64108 United States (map)

You know Union Station… but do you really know Union Station?

Join the ICAA for an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of hidden architectural gems at Kansas City’s iconic Union Station.

Completed in 1914, Union Station is one of the largest train stations in the United States, celebrated for its blend of Beaux-Arts neoclassicism and Art Deco design, embodying the grandeur of the City Beautiful movement.

Designed by Chicago architect Jarvis Hunt—nephew of renowned New York architect Richard Morris Hunt—the station showcases monumental classical details, including a 95-foot-high Grand Hall ceiling, three chandeliers weighing 3,500 pounds each, and a six-foot-diameter central clock.

Attendees will enjoy rare access to the Grand Hall attic and other historically significant spaces not typically open to the public.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, Union Station underwent a $250 million restoration in the late 1990s, ensuring its legacy as a vibrant civic and cultural landmark.

After the tour, continue the fun at Pierpont’s with a cocktail hour!
