Join the Luminaries Young Professionals for a morning of creativity and connection at the studio of Chicago-based artist Sharon Bladholm. Known for her work in cast glass, bronze, ceramics, and printmaking, Sharon’s practice bridges art, science, and biodiversity, often drawing inspiration from her expeditions to the Amazon rainforest with the Field Museum and Conservation International. Sharon also founded Opal Glass Studio in 1983, completing numerous stained glass restorations for historic buildings such as All Saints Episcopal Church and the Chicago Athletic Association.
Set within Sharon’s lush, plant-filled studio, the workshop will begin with inspiration from botanical forms before moving into the carving and printing process. Surrounded by natural textures and objects, participants will be encouraged to explore and experiment with a variety of designs. This intimate workshop invites us to step away from screens and immerse ourselves in a hands-on creative process.
Guided by Sharon, participants will carve designs of their choosing into clay slabs and transform them into prints on rice paper or cards to take home, or use as handcrafted gifts for the holidays. The technique is simple, forgiving, and endlessly creative.
All necessary tools and materials will be provided, as well as coffee and light refreshments. Seating is limited, reserve your spot today!
